New Head Chef joins popular Independent City Centre Restaurant

Arts welcomes Simon Turner

Arts is the well-renowned and long-standing independent restaurant which has been located on Call Lane for almost a quarter century.

Under new ownership this year, Arts have now added a new Head Chef to their recent evolution. Simon Turner makes his way to heading up Arts after a four year tenure at The Reliance, where he learnt from their ethic of using seasonal, sustainable and local produce to recreate global cuisine with an emphasis on flavour and quality.

Simon told us:
“I consider it a true opportunity to take Arts forward and promote good food.
I’ve known Arts since moving to Leeds 18 years ago, and always enjoyed the feel it had. It’s been known as one of those “go to” places for food.  When I saw an advert for a Head Chef at an independent city centre restaurant (which are few and far between!) I jumped at the opportunity.
I don’t want to change Arts, I’d just like to evolve Arts. I want to keep that bistro dining everyone knows, and bring locally-sourced meats and produce to the table.  I’m not saying we don’t travel the world with our dishes (because to me a British bistro is a melting pot of cuisines, and we need to embrace the flavours and styles that are all around us).”

Arts has been a stalwart of Call Lane and is this year under new ownership for the very first time in its history. Matt, Stu and Steve of New Citizens are its new owners, and, like Simon, they are keen to develop and evolve with the heritage of this city centre restaurant, bringing new updates and improvements but maintaining its bistro menu, its art-focus, and its independent, welcoming feel.

The new Arts new menu launches on the 28th June.
