With beer lovers increasingly searching for high-quality, locally made beer – and a cool place to drink it – taproom-style events like the LS6 Beer Festival are catching on to the trend.
The festival, taking place at Left Bank Leeds from 9-11 May, brings together five independent breweries from the Leeds area. Attendees will sip on beers from Anthology Brewing Co, Kirkstall Brewery, Ridgeside Brewing Co, Meanwood Brewery and Sunbeam Ales, all located within a few miles of the venue.
Catching on to the growing popularity of taprooms – Ridgeside Brewing Co host monthly Taproom events, while Meanwood Brewery recently opened Terminus Taproom and Bottle Shop – the festival is hosting a special ‘Meet the Brewer’ session on Thursday 9 May.
This relaxed session will capture a taproom-style atmosphere, offering an opportunity to sample beers with the brewers’ guidance and listen in on informal talks covering topics like brewing sours and starting your own microbrewery.
Josh Waldock, brewery manager at Ridgeside Brewery, said ‘We have our own taproom, once a month, and it’s a great way to stay connected to the local community. The event at Left Bank lets us recreate this atmosphere and interaction with local supporters, but in a more spacious setting and for a longer period of time. We’re thrilled to be working with Left Bank again – their iconic building is an awesome space for a beer festival!’
Baz Phillips, Director of Meanwood Brewery, agreed: ‘Our main drive has always been to open a tap room. Buying beer from the people that make it is a wonderful experience we’ve always wanted to share, and getting to do this alongside our friends somewhere as magical as Left Bank is amazing.’
Now in its ninth year, tickets for the LS6 Beer Festival often sell out in advance with beer lovers from across the city drawn to the stunning Grade II* listed former church building and the unique festival atmosphere with DJ’s, street food and a beer garden.
The LS6 Beer Festival runs from 9-11 May 2019 at Left Bank Leeds, Cardigan Road, Headingley. The ‘Meet The Brewer’ session takes place on 9 May, 6-11.30pm.
